2026/2027 School year starts 7 September 2026. Start enrolment

Private candidates cannot register directly with Pearson Edexcel. Entry runs through an approved centre — in the UAE, principally the British Council in Dubai and Abu Dhabi — ahead of published deadlines that close two to three months before each series, and as much as six months before a June series. A family deciding in April to sit June examinations has already missed the regular window, and the late penalty more than triples the fee per unit. One further thing to settle before anything else in 2026: the May/June series was cancelled across all boards in the UAE, so confirm the current series is running before planning around any date below.

Examination registration is the single most common administrative failure for private candidates, and in the Emirates the deadlines are earlier than families expect. This is the process in order, with the fees and documents.
Start here in 2026. The May/June 2026 series was cancelled across all boards in the UAE — Pearson Edexcel, Cambridge, OxfordAQA, IB, CBSE and CISCE — because of regional instability, with private candidates at the British Council included. Grades were awarded through contingency processes.
Confirm the current series status directly with British Council UAE and with Pearson before relying on any published registration window, including those below. A general guide cannot substitute for the live position when a family is planning around an examination date.
British Council Dubai — Tariq Bin Ziyad Street, behind Dubai TV. British Council Abu Dhabi — serving the capital, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
Both accept private candidates for Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge, across International GCSE and International AS and A Level.
Pearson-approved schools across the Emirates also accept external candidates for some sessions. Availability varies by year and subject, and schools prioritise their own students. Pearson's approved-centre search identifies them; contact each directly to ask whether they take private candidates and in which subjects.
Abu Dhabi has fewer options than Dubai, which makes early booking more important. Families in Sharjah and the northern emirates typically travel to Dubai; families in Al Ain to Abu Dhabi.
For International GCSE, identify the subject and specification code.
For International A Level, identify the specific units. The qualification is modular — assessed in AS and A2 units — so entry is unit by unit rather than subject by subject. Getting this wrong is a common error.
The cash-in code. Sitting every unit is not the same as being awarded the qualification. A candidate must enter a cash-in code in the series where they want the full A Level awarded, which aggregates unit results into a grade. A candidate who sits all units and never enters the cash-in has unit results and no A Level.
This is a known failure mode for private candidates with no school managing the process. Confirm explicitly who is responsible for the cash-in entry.
International GCSE runs in June and November. The January series was discontinued after January 2023.
Oct/Nov 2026 regular registration: 19 August – 5 September 2026
Oct/Nov 2026 low late stage: 6 September – 2 October 2026
International A Level runs in October, January and May/June.
Oct/Nov 2026 regular: 30 July – 21 August 2026
Oct/Nov 2026 low late: 22 August – 17 September 2026
January 2027 regular: 2 October – 14 October 2026
January 2027 low late: 15 October – 6 November 2026
For scale, the June 2026 series at British Council Dubai had a regular window of 9 December 2025 to 13 March 2026, with a late window to 15 April 2026 — closing nearly six months before the papers.
The pattern to internalise: a family deciding in April to sit June examinations has already missed the regular window.
Valid Emirates ID or passport
No Objection Certificate (NOC) if the candidate is currently enrolled at a UAE school
Previous Statement of Results, if retaking a subject
The NOC requirement catches families mid-transition — a child still formally enrolled at a Dubai school while preparing to sit papers independently needs the current school's consent. Request it early.
Fees are quoted in AED including VAT and paid directly to the centre.
From British Council Dubai's published Edexcel list for June 2026:
International A Level Further Pure Mathematics 1 (WFM01): AED 535 at standard registration
The same unit at late stages: AED 1,135, then AED 1,730
Modern language and humanities units: AED 685 to AED 845 at standard registration
The late penalty is severe — more than double at the first late stage, more than triple at the second. Across a full International A Level programme of several units, missing the regular window adds thousands of dirhams.
Budget: a learner sitting eight International GCSE subjects, or a full three-subject International A Level programme across its units, should allow several thousand dirhams per session at standard rates.
The Statement of Entry issues a few weeks before the session, confirming venue, timings and candidate number. Check it carefully against the subjects and units you intended to enter — errors are correctable before the session and not after.
Plan the examination period, not an examination day. Papers spread across several weeks. For a family travelling from Sharjah, Al Ain or the northern emirates, that means repeated journeys at fixed times, and accommodation is worth considering where papers fall on consecutive days.
Some online schools register their own candidates rather than leaving families to arrange private candidacy. The administrative difference is substantial — deadlines, unit selection, cash-in codes and fee payment all move to the school.
Ask any prospective provider directly: does the school handle examination entry, or do we register privately? And in 2026 specifically: how did your UAE-based candidates sit their examinations this year?
Through an approved centre — principally the British Council in Dubai or Abu Dhabi — never directly with Pearson. Choose the centre, identify the exact subjects and units, register within the published window, provide Emirates ID or passport plus an NOC if currently enrolled at a UAE school, and pay in AED.
Two to three months before the papers, and as much as six months before a June series. The Oct/Nov 2026 International GCSE regular window ran 19 August to 5 September 2026; the January 2027 International A Level regular window ran 2 to 14 October 2026. Confirm current windows with the centre.
Fees are in AED including VAT and vary by subject and unit. From British Council Dubai's June 2026 list, an International A Level unit ran AED 535 at standard registration, rising to AED 1,135 and then AED 1,730 at the late stages. Modern language and humanities units ran AED 685 to AED 845.
No. Entry must go through an approved centre. In the UAE that means the British Council or a Pearson-approved school accepting external candidates.
Valid Emirates ID or passport, a No Objection Certificate if the candidate is currently enrolled at a UAE school, and the previous Statement of Results if retaking a subject.
For International A Level, yes. It is the entry made in the series where you want the full qualification awarded, aggregating unit results into a grade. Sitting every unit without entering the cash-in produces unit results but no A Level — a known problem for private candidates without a school managing the process.
Yes. In April 2026 all major boards cancelled their May/June 2026 series in the UAE because of regional instability, including private candidates at the British Council. Grades were awarded through contingency processes. Confirm the current series status before planning.
Entry goes through an approved centre, never direct. Register in the regular window — the late penalty more than triples the fee — and confirm who is handling the cash-in code for International A Level. In 2026, confirm the series is running before anything else.
